How do I get my dojo patch?

  1. ADULTS: GIVEN AFTER EXTENSION
  2. JUNIORS: Can be earned after extending beyond the starter package AND reciting the codes

How does one earn their next rank?

  1. Student must attend minimum of 30 classes with each belt
  2. Student must attend the minimum number of required kumite classes
    • This requirement can be waived if student consistently competes in kumite
  3. Student must attend and earn their patch for their level
    • Earning this patch signifies their eligibility to test for their next level
      • 1. This ensures the student knows the bare minimum required for their next level
  4. Student must take the Promotion Kyu test (aka Rank Test)
    • i. Usually a minimum of 2 hours test
    • ii. Student’s minimum requirements are tested through a gauntlet of drills and hot seating
      • 1.       The higher the level, the more intense the energy and spirit one must have to pass

WHEN ARE PROMOTION KYU TESTS (AKA RANK TEST)?

  1. Patch workshops and Rank rests are held quarterly
    • i. Patch Workshops: JAN APR JUL CT
      • There is a $40 fee for patch workshops
    • ii. Rank Tests: FEB MAY AUG NOV
      • Dates are usually on a Thursday and Friday at the end of those months
      • There is a fee for testing, which is different fee for each level.

DOJO ETIQUETTE

  1. PLEASE BE SURE TO RESPECTFULLY AND PROPERLY BOW:
    • Entering and leaving the dojo
    • Entering and leaving the tatami (dojo floor)
    • To fellow student and ALL HIGHER RANKING STUDENTS upon greeting
  2. Beginning and End of class
    • If not taking class, students are to line up along the edge of the Tatami (dojo floor) at the beginning and end of each class
  3. Leaving dojo floor during class
    • If need to use restroom, please ask the Sensei before leaving and returning to class
      • Please use the restroom prior to the start of class
  4. Tardiness
    • If coming to the class late, please ask the Sensei permission to join the class prior to jumping in
  5. Keeping the dojo clean
    • Please do your part in keeping the dojo clean
      • Please throw away any garbage you have or see
      • Please keep the restroom clean after using

REPRESENTING THE DOJO

Students are to represent the dojo, their families, and themselves in a good way OUTSIDE of the dojo.

  1. Malicious and improper use of martial arts and or behavior is grounds for expulsion from the dojo.
  2. For juniors, the same respect and good behavior expected at the dojo is also expected at home.
    • Disrespect and poor behavior are grounds for being ineligible for any promotion tests.
